ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Have you ever stayed inside during a snow storm because you were afraid you would slip and fall? If so, Andrew County Engagement Specialist in Nutrition and Health Education Gina Lucas is spearheading a program that might be for you. Lucas told KXCV/KRNW that the program, "A Matter of Balance," could potentially lead to a domino effect.

"The objective is to help older adults overcome their fear of falling.  Because when a person ages and they have the misconception that falling is inevitable, they start to decrease their activity.  Which then leads to your muscle deterioration, lack of balance and coordinance.  But also we found as they reduce their activities, they're becoming more isolated."

Although the program is targeted for older adults, Lucas said there is no minimum age for attending the program. "A Matter of Balance" will be held on Mondays starting on Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Francis Street First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph.
